As a moderator, you guide journalistic programmes. You greet and say goodbye to your audience at the studio as well as to your audience at home. During the programme, you moderate so-called clips and contributions. You interview guests, communicate with the audience, and oversee studio activities. You interview correspondents who are remotely connected via video.

Why you should study Journalism

Anyone who runs a blog can call themselves a journalist and credible information is often difficult to identify in the sea of fake news. With your Bachelor's degree in Journalism, you become a beacon of hope for information seekers. You qualify yourself to take up exciting positions in the media and to collect information and present it in a comprehensible way. This opens up various freedoms and interesting opportunities for your future.

Your IU Studies in Journalism  

The Bachelor's degree programme in Journalism offers you a solid journalistic education. First and foremost, you will learn how to research skilfully, develop your own writing style and deal with audio-visual media. In accordance with the high standards of the German Journalists' Association (DJV), you will be prepared for journalistic practice and the various challenges of the media industry.   

Your Journalism studies will also convince you with their excellent practical relevance. Among other things, you learn how to create and design cross-media content according to media ethics principles. You will work particularly intensively with online media. You will also develop basic skills in the field of media and communication sciences, typography, research and conception. You will practise scientific work and deal with methods of market research, storytelling and digital editorial management. It's up to you when exactly you do all this. At IU, you make your own schedule. 

A look into the future: what you will do after graduation 

Sports, travel, politics - with your Journalism studies, you can focus on the topics that interest you the most. Your career start looks a little different depending on the medium. In some areas you start as a volunteer, trainee or in a junior position. You will familiarise yourself with the internal processes so that you can soon work independently. As soon as you have gained enough professional experience, you can also take on managerial functions and lead your own team of journalists.  

Whether as a presenter, correspondent or reporter, the possibilities after your Journalism degree are manifold. Do you already know what you want to do in the future? If not, that's not a bad thing. After all, your studies will give you the orientation you need.
