The online study programme at IU does not enable you to become a psychotherapist. However, it opens up a wide variety of exciting perspectives, for example in clinical psychology. Your expertise is needed in children’s clinics, hospitals, rehabilitation clinics as well as psychiatric and social-pediatric institutions. You can also work in a counselling center for family or marriage counselling or in research and teaching.
In addition, you are needed in areas such as organisational or health psychology. Your study programme offers a range of electives for you to shape your own profile.
By the way: The bachelor’s programme in Psychology adheres to the guidelines of the DGP (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Psychologie e.V., German Society of Psychology) and is recognised by the BDP (Berufsverband Deutscher Psychologinnen und Psychologen e.V., Professional Association of German Psychologists).

Verpflichtendes Praxisprojekt im Fernstudium Psychologie
Um den Abschluss Bachelor of Science im Studiengang Psychologie zu erhalten, musst Du im Rahmen Deines Studiums ein Praxisprojekt im Umfang von 300 h absolvieren. Dein Praxisprojekt kannst Du starten, wenn Du das Modul „Einführung in die sozialwissenschaftliche Statistik“ erfolgreich abgeschlossen hast. Außerdem findet das Seminar „Experimentelle Forschung“ im vierten Semester in Teilen als Präsenzveranstaltung in einer PC-Labor-Umgebung statt. Das Präsenzseminar hat einen Umfang von 5 ECTS. Im Seminar planst Du nach theoretischer Einarbeitung ein Experiment, führst dieses durch und wertest es aus. Da zur Durchführung eine spezielle Ausstattung benötigt wird, bieten wir Dir das Seminar in passenden Settings an, in denen Experimente durchgeführt werden können.
Dein Weg zur Berufsbezeichnung Psycholog:in
Die Berufsbezeichnung Psycholog:in ist nicht gleichzusetzen mit der des:der Psychotherapeut:in. Letztere erfordert einen anderen Bildungsweg und konzentriert sich auf die Behandlung von Menschen mit einer psychischen Erkrankung.
Die Bezeichnung Psychologin oder Psychologe ist eine geschützte Berufsbezeichnung und kann von Personen verwendet werden, die über ein abgeschlossenes, mindestens vierjähriges Hauptfachstudium der Psychologie mit mindestens 240 ECTS-Punkten verfügen. Davon müssen mindestens 210 Punkte in psychologischen Grundlagen-, Methoden- und Anwendungsfächern, in Praktika (15–30 Punkte) und durch eine wissenschaftliche Abschlussarbeit mit psychologischer Fragestellung erworben worden sein. Der Weg führt über einen Bachelor mit konsekutivem Master im Hauptfachstudium Psychologie.
Nach Abschluss des B. Sc. Psychologie an der IU kannst Du die Berechtigung zum Tragen der Berufsbezeichnung Psycholog:in erwerben, indem Du einen entsprechend den Vorgaben der Berufsverbände konzipierten psychologischen Masterstudiengang absolvierst. Bisher bieten wir noch keinen solchen Master an der IU an.
